Linking of components - concept

Idea

We would like to have a theoretical illustration how linking of components can be implemented. It should communicate a concept first. Optimally, the concept is general, which means that it allows to link any two (or more?) plots together.

Tasks

1. Provide a word / powerpoint / PDF document that explains the concept thoroughly (no implementation details here)
2. When 1. is done and there is still time left, provide technical details on how the concept could be implemented.
