GeoMapper is a tool for visualizing geospatial data, in particular data from [GRO.data](https://data.goettingen-research-online.de/), the [Dataverse](https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse) repository of the University of Göttingen.
It is originally based on [geotiff.io](https://github.com/GeoTIFF/geotiff.io/), an application for displaying GeoTiffs in the browser. However, it has since been extended to support also other common geospatial files: GeoJSON, [zipped shapefiles](https://guides.dataverse.org/en/latest/developers/geospatial.html), KML, and CSV with columns for latitude and longitude coordinates.
Note that there are two ways of approaching GeoMapper:
1. Via [GRO.data](https://data.goettingen-research-online.de/):
[This option will be available soon!]
When you navigate to a supported geospatial file (e.g. GeoJSON or GeoTiff) and click on "Access", you will find the "GeoMapper" option in the context menu. By clicking on it, GeoMapper opens in a new tab and loads the requested file into it.
2. Directly via [https://geomapper.goettingen-research-online.de](https://geomapper.goettingen-research-online.de):
You can either load local files into GeoMapper, or you can use the "Explore" tool to search [GRO.data](https://data.goettingen-research-online.de/). The search makes use of the [Dataverse Search API](https://guides.dataverse.org/en/latest/api/search.html).
